School gardens are great outdoor classrooms for students, they reinforce math, science, nutrition awareness and many other topics taught in the classroom. They provide students with a sense of ownership of their school and the greater community. School gardens have been shown to help students become better environmental stewards and develop important skills such as patience, cooperation, teamwork, pride and volunteerism. We also know that children that are exposed to agriculture early on, are more likely to pursue some type of associated career.
Rooted in Wyoming is a registered 501c-3 non-profit organization managed by a board of directors and consisting of community members and invested organizations. We are dedicated to building and nurturing school and community gardens, in Sheridan County and across our state. Our team works to create gardens that provide intergenerational and educational recreation; healthy, locally grown foods for Sheridan County families; connections with our area history; and increased appreciation of our local natural environment!
Rooted in Wyoming was formed as a result of an immediate and long-standing community desire to promote the better understanding of local foods, nutrition and sustainability in our community.
The goal of Rooted in Wyoming, is to provide support for those that are interested in implementing local foods and gardening into their curriculum, by providing funding, volunteer recruitment, tools & resources, planning & organization and curriculum support.
Rooted in Wyoming envisions a future where everyone in our state has access to fresh local foods and is motivated to grow their own food.
Rooted in Wyoming partners with community organizations and schools to facilitate outreach programs and cultivate educational gardens.
