Farm Wall at Smith Alley

The Farm Walls at Smith Alley are a summertime fixture of downtown Sheridan. Rooted in Wyoming has helped developed this beautiful, peaceful hydroponic project for the enjoyment and education of our community - to encourage engagement, spark conversation about local food, and provide produce to the Hub on Smith.

This hydroponic system is community sponsored, locally designed, and manufactured. Rooted partners with Papa Joe’s Produce to sustain three vertical farm walls and two ebb-and-flow beds.

Produce is harvested and donated to The Hub on Smith’s Grab n' Go Café.

“The Farm Walls are the perfect addition to our downtown. They not only add beauty to the area, but also provide fresh, local produce that can be enjoyed by our community,” says Jody Hartley with the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce. “The Farm Walls are a great example of how any community can enjoy locally produced foods in a small footprint, and we have received many comments at the Chamber from visitors who are so impressed with the beauty and creative focus on providing local foods.”

Rooted started the Farm Walls at Smith Alley in 2020 as part of a U.S. Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop grant-funded project through the Wyoming Business Council and the Wyoming Department of Agriculture.

The Farm Walls are sponsored by Smith Alley Brewing Co, Sheridan Motor, Chris and Maddy Pope, The Gregory Family and First Federal Bank and Trust.
