Ram Harvest Garden

Rooted in Wyoming’s first project was built by sheer grit and determination! Time, intention, willingness to dig holes, move the dirt and invest the group’s dollars brought Ram Harvest Garden to fruition.

Started in February of 2016 and finished in 2017, Ram Harvest was the longest build to date. We are proud of this project for Big Horn Schools, as Ram Harvest Garden was RiW's first garden. It is going strong and continues to grow through various fundraising efforts, including plant sales, selling raffle tickets for the pumpkins, squash, and gourds grown in the garden, and a silent auction for succulent pumpkin centerpieces.

Students have helped de-stem grapes and turned them into grape jelly to sell! In the winter months, students grow micro-greens and sample different varieties. Students have helped rebuild the garden's herb spiral in the spring, and added raised beds. Summer months have been challenging, with garden pests and gates being left open, but the fall brings kids back to school and the garden.

Grant funding from the Whole Kids Foundation will help the Ram Harvest Garden team meet the goal of having a greenhouse at Big Horn in the near future.

This garden is now in total production and serves as an outdoor extension to classrooms at Big Horn School, with many families involved in summer maintenance. The garden hosts a worm trench, a grape teepee, multiple raised beds, fruit trees, a sizable outdoor teaching area, and a composting station to serve all grades, K-8! We are excited to see how this garden continues to grow!
